THE
MOTHERS
The Mothers grow from the earth and water.
The stylized folds of their clothing emerge from the elements to give form to the two figures, which can be seen at once, to suggest both the old, as evidenced by the maturity of their features, and the young, as both are pregnant.
The figures represent experience. Knowledge gained, not only in their lifetimes, but in the lives of all that have gone before them. They are wrapped in symbols of an ancient heritage and they lean together in order to share their experiences and for each to gain strength from the other. They are on a journey which has continued since the beginning of time and which will continue to its end. With confidence and trust they look up and out into the future.
The new life that each mother bears will be nurtured along a journey of new experiences and adventures, but all the while will carry with them the knowledge and wisdom passed on by generations of Mothers who have gone before.
